Trust
How we check our books
A book for learning a language leaves no room for “nearly right”. One wrong vowel, one badly translated word, one inaccurate date, and the reader's trust is gone.
So every Ulpan Story book goes through a chain of checks, from the story itself to the printed book. Here is what we check, and how.
- 40+
- checkpoints applied to every book
- 493
- words in volume 1 linked to their dictionary form and their root
- 28/28
- pages where the Hebrew and its support are checked side by side
Six stages, six checks
- 1
The facts
Every true story rests on painstaking research. Dates, places, names: every fact is checked. When historians disagree about an episode, the book says so instead of picking a side.
- 2
The Hebrew
The text is written in simple, natural Hebrew, then fully vocalised. Every vowel is checked. The known errors of vocalisation tools are hunted down one by one, and every correction is logged.
- 3
The vocabulary
Every glossary word is traced back to its true dictionary form and its root. Doubtful matches are reviewed one by one. A word only leaves the support once the reader has met it several times.
- 4
The layout
The Hebrew and its support are aligned paragraph by paragraph. The layout is checked automatically (no lost text, no misalignment, no overflow), then by eye.
- 5
The audio
The recordings are produced with a synthetic voice. They are then listened to in full, with and without nikud, and corrected wherever a pronunciation is not right.
- 6
Final approval
Before printing, the book is proofread page by page against a checklist. A book is never approved on the strength of a report: it is approved on the book itself.
Found a mistake? Tell us
Despite all this care, a mistake can slip through. If you find one, write to us from the Contact page. Every reported error is fixed in the next version of the book, and becomes a new checkpoint so it never comes back.
Do you use artificial intelligence?
Yes, as a tool: to vocalise the text, produce the voices and check that the vocabulary is consistent. But nothing is published unchecked. Every stage is verified, corrected where needed, and the decisions remain human.
Do your books promise a level within a set time?
No. Everyone moves at their own pace, and we would rather not promise what we cannot guarantee. What we do guarantee is an accurate book, from the first word to the last.
Are the stories fictionalised?
The story is written to be enjoyable, with scenes and dialogue. But the facts, dates and people are real. When a detail belongs to legend, the book points it out.
